Course requirements and information:

Trapper Education is a mandatory pre-requisite of licensing for all beaver and general trappers, with the exception of persons born before Sept. 30, 1926 who have held a trapping licence in at least one year since the 1992/93 season.

The trapper education course involves a full day of in-class instruction, and commences at 8AM. Be prepared to be in class until 6PM. Course fee is $150 for Adults and $80 for Youth (12-17), which includes the Atlantic Canada Trapper Education Student Manual. Students must provide a NL Drivers Licence number or NL Photo Identification Number. No other means of identification can be accepted, since this number is the only one acceptable by the Wildlife Division in their Wildlife Information Management System (WIMS). The course concludes with a mandatory exam consisting of fifty multiple choice and true/false questions, based on material covered during the day. An exam score of 80% is required as a passing grade. Supplementary practical sessions, or Field Days, are periodically offered to successful course participants, who will be contacted in advance of the availability of such Field Days.
